Attacked Enemy Convoy In Dover Straits
(Rec. 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, March 14. While attempting to pass through the Straits of Dover during a moonless period last night, an enemy convoy, strongly escorted by R-boats was intercepted by light coastal forces under Lieut.-Commander H. O. T. Bradford, states an Admiralty communique. The British ships immediately engaged and in the course of a sharp action, torpedoed and sank a small supply ship. A second supply ship and two R-boats were severely damaged by gunfire. Enemy shore batteries opened fire on the British ships without effect. Later our ships encountered and attacked a second group of R-boats, one of which was hit repeatedly by gunfire. Fire from shore batteries was again ineffective. All the British ships returned safely to harbour, having suffered no casualties.
