Temperance Tickets Gain Some Ground

(Special) AUCKLAND, This Day. Although they were defeated in the Auckland city district, accredited temperance candidates achieved marked success in several areas at the hotel licensing- committee elections today. They gained control of the Remuera and Whangarei committees and, in other districts for which returns have been received, their candidates were successful. The poll was on parliamentary franchise but in all districts only a small proportion of electors exercised their vote. In several districts, including the city, where interest had been aroused by announcement of tickets, voting was somewhat heavier than in 19" G and 1 !>:’!•.
