Release Of Biscuits
(Special) AUCKLAND, This Day. Criticism has been voiced by a number of city wholesale merchants of the action of the Government in releasing for public consumption recently large stocks of biscuits. many of which proved to be stale or broken. One merchant said that while the public was prepared to do without biscuits on the understanding that they were supplied to Britain and the armed forces, it would not receive with equanimity the information that large stocks had been held for an unnecessarily long period. Efforts had been made to foist these biscuits on merchants and retailers, but it had been found that they were virtually unsaleable. In his opinion there was no longer justification for maintaining large reserves of biscuits and other perishable foodstuffs in New Zealand.
