The Auckland Hospital Board last night appointed Miss Mavis L. Bowmar as matron of the Warkworth Cottage Hospital. Miss Bowmar, who is at present sister in charge of the Whakatane maternity annexe, was trained at the Auckland Hospital, ad has also served on the staff of the Whangarei Hospital. The death has occurred of Sir Colin Fraser, 69, chairman of directors for Broken. Hill South. Limited, and director of Materials and Supply in the Commonwealth munitions department. He was born at Coromandel, New Zealand, and was a mining geologist in New Zealand and later consulting engineer in London before becoming associated with Broken Hill operations. He attended the Ottawa conference as a representative of Australian metal interests and was knighted in 1935. He leaves a widow 7 and two daughters. The death has occurred in Auckland of Mr. Walter Kerns, manager of the New Zealand Glass Manufacturers' Company, aged 61. Mr. Kerns had been engaged in the glass industry for 47 .years and was appointed manager in New Zealand when the glass industry was established in Auckland in 1922. He played a leading part in developing the industry in the Dominion, guiding it through difficult years. Mr. Kerns was keenly interested in sport and was a member of the winning team in several bowling tournaments. He is survived by his wife and one daughter.
