Jest A Plane Until The Passenger Appeared
(Official N.Z.E.F. Wat* Correspondent.) NISSAN, March 12. On Nissan airstrip, very soon after that most forward of Allied punching-points was opened, there landed a large plane. At first nobody took much notice, fit a matter of hours after conversion W jungle, into airfield, the landing of any plane had become just routine stuff. Then suddenly there was a converging of men on that plane and a growing group around it. Photographers galloped up and the reason for this interest was comely Lieutenant Ann Ganzeuhl, first white woman to visit the island since the invasion. This American nurse had travelled to the furthest outpost of the Allied advance in order to care for casualties being evacuated by air. Going about her duties in tbe most matter-of-fact manuei possible, she was a good example of the courageous work being carried out by Allied service women who are prepared to go unhesitatingly wherever they can help the fighting men.
