Some time ago you published in the “Advocate” an article in which your correspondent complained of the action
RUAKAKA BEACH
of some person or persons in removing from the town side of the
Ruakaka Beach certain necessary buildings, viz., dressing sheds and convenience, whilst the fresh-water pump was also removed and taken with these other materials to give increased facilities to those occupying the camp sites on the Domain proper. I personally am very interested in this beach as my children are keen to learn to swim, and at every opportunity I encourage them. The only place at Ruakaka where swimming can be enjoyed at any state of the tide is in the vicinity of the place known to “locals” as the “deep-hole,” and it is to this locality that most people from Mangapai, Mata, One Tree Point and Ruakaka wend their way when an hour or two’s pleasure is sought on the beach. This spot is quite half-a-mile from the camp sites, and in my humble opinion it was quite unfair to remove the aforementioned amenities from their old location. I had hoped those responsible for the removal would, through your columns, have long before this justified their action. I trust that even yet we may receive some reasonable explanation of the change—“A QUATICA.”
