Charges For Patriotic Hut
(Spec.) KAIKG'HE, This Day. “The local Red Cross were asked to pay £1 for the use of the Kaikohe Patriotic Hut for half-an-hour in the morning and two hours in the afternoon. This charge was additional to the 10/which we willingly pay for the use of the kitchen and the appliances in it/* said Mrs. T. Bassett at last night’s meeting of the Bay of Islands Inter-zone Patriotic Committee, held at Ohacawai. The subject was brought up after the chairman (Mr. H. T. Atkinson) sought confirmation from the meeting of his action in granting the Kaikohe Plunket organisation free use of the hut on two days weekly. Mr. Atkinson said he had done so at the request of the Kaikohe Town Board and because he believed that if any community in the inter-zone area set out to raise money for now Plunket rooms just now, its,, patriotic quota “would be shot to pieces." No Scale of Charges Given Mrs. Bassett said she had . officially asked the hut committee in’Kaikohe for a scale of its charges, but none had been forthcoming. The piano, forms, etc., in the hut belonged to the Town Board and she wondered to whose disposal the hut really lay. She had though that organisations taking part in the raising of patriotic funds should be permitted use of the hut free. The chairman: Patrotic huts are under absolute control of inter-zone committees, but the hut committees run them on our behalf. Mr. C. Royds (Kawakawa): We have been giving our hut free, but we liavo lately been considering making a charge of 2/6 to cover lighting, caretaking etc. Airs. Bassett then moved that all hut committees under the inter-zone committee’s! jurisdiction be requested to submit a scale of charges for approval.
