Treasure Trove la Soudan Sands

(Received 1.20 p.m.) (8.0. W.) RUGBY, February 24.

Many thousands of diamonds, rubies and emeralds, lying untouched in the desert sands three miles from Khartoum for nearly six months, have been found, states a Khartoum message. Last December Mr. Charles Crocker, who was charged with investigations into the activities of London and Eire raiders, and was called in by Lloyd;: underwriters to investigate the disappearance of £36,000 worth of diamonds, flew to 'the Middle East. He was informed that the diamonds might be in the back of an aircraft which crashed and burnt out three miles from Khartoum. Visiting the spot, Mr. Crocker turned up some sand and found a few diamonds. He organised a search and then returned to London. Since then many cubic yards of sand have been removed and sieved with the result that the stones have been recovered. The rubies and emeralds, which belonged to passengers in the plane, are valued at over £7500. The owners of the diamonds are not known, but they are believed to be a group of diamond merchants whom Mr. Crocker is seeking.
