Gallant American Officer Decorated

General Mark Clark visited the Allied field hospital at Anzio. writes a correspondent, and pinned the Distinguished Service Cross on a young wounded American, officer who showed extraordinary heroism on the opening day <ot the big German attack last week.

The officer is Lieutenant Donald E. Knowlton, who remained at his artillery observation post until almost over-run by the enemy, and brought down such accurate fire that the Germans were disorganised.
