Temp.-Sergt. G. K. Babe

Advice has been received by Mrs A. Babe, of Maungakaramea, that her son, Temporary-Sergeant G. K. Babe, has been reported wounded while on active service. A cable from him states that the wound is not serious. Born and educated at Waikiekie, Temp.-Sergt, Babe assisted his parents on the home farm. An active footballer, he played for the Waikiekie, Maungakaramea and Whangarei Old Boys’ teams. Upon the death of his father three years ago, he took over sole management of the farm, which was sold upon his entering camp in June. 1943. In July he was drafted overseas with the rank of private, subsequently being promoted to temporary-sergeant.
