Awards To Airmen
(P.A.) WELLINGTON. This Day. Five awards to New Zealand airmen were announced today by the GovernorGeneral (Sir Cyril Newall). They are:— Bar to Distinguished Flying Cross: Squadron-Leader M. J. Herrick, R.A.F., of Hastings. Distinguished Flying Cross: FlightLieutenant Mortimer Tuke Vanderpump, of Wairoa.
Distinguished Flying Medal: FlyingOfficer (formerly Flt.-Sgt) Trevor Edward Ganley, of Kaipaki Ohaupo; Flight-Ser-geant Ernest Charles Laurie, of Auckland: Flight-Sergeant Patrick Andrew Tilyard, of Wellington. All of the awards are for gallantry in action against Japanese aircraft in the Pacific.
Squadron-Leader Herrick won the D.F.C. in the Battle of Britain, in 1940. and Flt.Lieutenant Vanderpump holds the American D.F.C.
