University Students And Essential Work

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The following resolution was passed at a recent convention of the New Zealand Student Christian Movement: “That the convention recognises the need for employment of students under manpower regulations and has every desire that they should take their share of necessary' work of their country, but because it would appear that the general public is not aware of the value of university and teachers training college students as potential leaders of the nation, it requests that the University Senate and New Zealand University Students’ Association be asked to watch the interests of students directed by manpower in matters of (A) excessive overtime. (B) unhealthy occupations, (C) overcrowding of the university year. “We suggest that possibly members of the Students’ Association and of college councils be associated with the manpower officers in their decisions. “Further, that a report on student health during the directed period be submitted to the university and teachers training colleges." A copy of the resolution has been sent to the University Senate and to the New Zealand University Students’ Association.
