Parcels Received, But Were Minus Tobacco
"Don’t lose your receipt for the tobacco you sent,” was. a statement contained in a letter from a Whangarei soldier in the Middle East to his relatives. • This was read at the monthly meeting of the Next-of-Kin Association last night. The soldier said that some parcels were received minus the tobacco. He mentioned that in a shipment of goods arriving in the Middle East two cases supposed to contain tobacco were found to be empty. The cases were in the centre of a number of cases landed. Another member reported that a parcel had been received by his son, minus the tobacco. A third member mentioned that she had sent three parcels per month to her soldier, and six during last September; and the last parcel known by her to have reached the soldier was in May last. She also complained at the delay in”the receipt of letters which showed a lapse of four months before their receipt. It was decided to write to the National Patriotic Fund Board giving full particulars and asking for any information in explanation.
