Southern States Still Solid For Roosevelt
WASHINGTON, January 18.
After interviewing the Governors of Southern States in conference, the Washington correspondent of the Associated Press said that although not entirely happy about its treatment by the Roosevelt Administration, the south remains dependably within the Democratic fold.
Southern Governors all expressed a firm belief that the solid south will be strongly Democratic in the November election no matter whether President Roosevelt is a candidate or someone else bears the Democratic colours. Governor Arnall, of Georgia, although believing that the south should bargain for political support, agreed that Georgia will vote for the Democratic ticket this fall.
Governor Holland, of Florida, voiced the opinion reiterated by most southern governors, namely that there will not be a break away from the party by the south and that differences will be settled within the party. He added that if the election finds the war still on, southerners will forget their inclination against a fourth term.
