Music Pupils’ Recital

The annual recital by pupils of Miss C, H. Stratford, L.T.C.L., L.A.8., was held in the Whangarei Town Hall and was well attended by parents and friends. All the items gave pleasure alike to performers and audience, and were as follows. —

Mortensen, Margaret Wright, Betty Finlayson. lan Gibson, Donald Foote, Lorna Hawkins, Barbara Finlayson, Colleen Kerr. Valerie Sands, Audrey Coleman Elaine Foote, Rae Clarke, Margaret Anderson, Noel Baigent, Gwen Weston, Heather McCulloch, Colleen McGregor, Vivienne McCulloch, Zoe Alach. Lorraine Carter, Cliff Hughes, Brian Lawrence, Shirley Drummond. David Waterhouse. Margo Garland, Clive Emson, Nancy Dalbeth, Pat Wilson, Rae Gribble, Craig Crawford, Verna Hargreaves, Jill Christiansen, Bruce Henricksen, Betty Bell, Pat Higham, P. Williams, S. Teesdale. Piano Duets: Colleen Kerr and Lorna Hawkins. Barbara Finlayson and Bella Puriri, Heather McCulloch and Nancy Dalbeth, Jill Christiansen and Verna Hargreaves, S. Teesdale and P. Williams.

Piano trios: B. and J. Finlayson and V Mortensen, S. and B. Finlayson and C Kerr.

Interspersing the piano items, songs were sung by Misses Heather McCulloch, Gwen Weston, Zoe Alach. Berna Armstrong, Betty, Bell and N. Kendon, and a violin solo was given by Peter Waterhouse. A feature of the evening was the floral decoration of the stage. This was the work of Mrs W. W. Logan and was the subject of most favourable comment. At the conclusion of the recital, the Mayor (Mr W. Jones), announced the results of the Royal Academy examinations held in October and presented certificates as follows:

Grade 2: Heather McCulloch (with credit). Margaret Anderson, Grade 3: David Waterhouse. Grade 5: Bruce Henrickson. Grade 7: Patricia Higham. Grade 8: Shirley Teesdale. Grammar of Music.—Grade 4: Betty Beil, 89 marks.
