Will Whisky Scotch Flu?
LONDON, December 15.
The first question the new Minister for Food (Mr Llewellin) had to answer in the House of Commons was asked by Major-General Sir A. W. F. Knox C., Wycombe), who inquired if he would allocate more grain for the manufacture of whisky owing. to its curative effect on influenza.
Mr Llewellin. No, sir. I’m afraid this is not yet possible. Major-General Knox: Does the Minister realise that if the Government pursues its present policy there will be no whisky for at least eight or 10 years after the war? Dr. Russell Thomas: Whisky has no curative effect on influenza except in the imagination of those drinking it. (Laughter.)
