(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Grants on the national basis totalling £11,160 were made by the Governmem today as. Xmas gifts to a number of charitable and philanthropic bodies from surplus profits of art unions. The highest grant is £750 each to the New Zealand Crippled Childrens’ Society and the Commandery in New Zealand of the Order of St. John for branches and the subsidiary organisation for relief purposes. £SOO each has been granted to the Wellington Free Ambulance, the Superior Council of the Vincent De Paul Society, the Auckland City Mission, Smith Family, Wellington; Homes for Compassion, Island Bay and Silverstream, the Leper Nursing Sisters Rest Home and the New Zealand R.S.A. Other grants range from £25 to £225.
