Wavell Helps To Fight Bengal Famine
(Ree. 11.50 a.m.) RUGBY, Dee. 13. Perhaps the most important single act in fighting the Bengal famine was General Wavell’s action in obtaining military transport for foodstuffs, said a member of the council of Friends’ ambulance unit (Mr Horace Alexander) speaking at Birmingham. Latest advice indicated that the food situation was just beginning to improve in Calcutta, although the medical situation and need for clothes and blankets was acute.
