Soldiers On Farms
(Special) AUCKLAND, This Day. Territorial Force soldiers at present mobilised for haymaking and other farm tasks will leave their camps to return to their homes on December 23. The second batch of approximately 1000 men from the Northern Military District will be mobilised on December 28. They will leave for the various centres that day and will commence work on the following day. They will be demobilised on January 24. Requests were made by Army Headquarters, Wellington, that, if possible, work over both the Christmas and New Year holiday periods should be avoided. This would have enlailed demobilising the first batch on December 23 and postponing the calling-up of the second draft until January 4. A survey of the requirements of thi> district, however, revealed that this could not be done without serious inconvenience to farmers, as tins period, particularly after Christmas, was the height of the harvesting season. Detailed arrangements concerning the units affected arc not yet available. Most of the districts served by the present draft again will be included, and about lire only new areas are Whakalane. Opotiki and Taneatua.
