Migrants For Australia

(Rec. 12.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Post-war migration to Australia will be discussed immediately by the Federal Government at a departmental conference. A survey will be made of the probable rate at which new settlers could be absorbed after the war and the Government’s final policy will be based on results of this survey.

Sir Neville Pearson, member of the British Press Delegation which has been visiting Australia, emphasised that now was the time to open discussions with countries from which migrants were desired. Australia’s population must be heavily increased if the country was to take its rightful place in the Western Pacific.
