MASTERTON, Monday. ! The death has occurred in Masterton of
■ Mr. J. E. Cooptn-, aged 73. a nronnnenl ;figure in the life of the Wairarapa and I the Wellington Province. Educated at the 4Christchurch Boys’ High School and Canterbury College, he was a member of the /Canterbury Homestead Association, and lone ot the representatives who selected land in the North Island 50 years ago, /choosing a block at Mangamahoe. He was a foundation member of the Dominium executive of the New Zealand Fanners’ Union. For many years he was managing
director of the Wellington Farmers’ Meat Company, whose works at Masterton are now conducted by P.ortlnvick and Sons, lie unsuccessfully contested the Pahiatua and Masterton seats as a Conservative some years ago.
