Dargaville Flyer D.F.C.
Advice that their eldest son, Nicholas Matich, has ben awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal and has also been granted a commission has been received by Mr. and Mrs.'V. Matich, of Dargaville. The citation accompanying the award states that Pilot-Officer Matich has taken part with fine efficiency in sorties against targets at Cologne, Berlin and other parts ol enerrty territory. r- ilot-Gfficer Matich was born in Northern Wairoa and educated at St. Joseph’s Convent and the Dargaville High School. He was a Northern Wairoa representative footballer for a | number of years. He left New Zealand in 1941 and, after gaining his wings in Canada, proceeded to England, where he has been serving with the Royal Air Force.
