Dominion Officers Visit League Of Mothers
There was a good attendance at the September meeting held in the Presbyterian hall. Mrs. Inkster presided. Mrs. Harvey Turner (provincial president) and Mrs. titling (provincial secretary) were guest speakers. The service opened with the singing of the League hymn, after which Mrs. Turner led the admission service for three new members.
The thought, sent in by Mrs. Connell, was read, after which bouquets were presented to Mrs. Turner and Mrs. Utting. Mrs. Burns delighted members with two solos. Mrs. Fry was her accompanist.
As provincial president, Mrs. Turner conveyed the greetings of all members to the Whangarei branch and read an apology from Mrs. Pool, of Auckland, who was unable to be present.
Mrs. Turner spoke of her live years of presidential office ancl of the lasting friendships she had made in the membership of ihe league. Four of these years had been vears of war and stress to all.
Likening the league ideals and membership to mothers in the Bible, the speaker stressed the power of prayer for help and strength. A bond of worship in the home was binding and a privilege given by parents to children, whose memory of it would be with them to strengthen and comfort in times of stress.
Mrs. Utting spoke of her stewardship as provincial secretary and of her opportunities to obtain the friendship of L.O.M. members. The L.O.M. was a society of women to whom wifehood and motherhood was given. It was tolerant and understanding to others’ ways and failings and gave a helping hand to those less fortunate. “Without vision a nation perishes." The vision of Lady Alice Fergussen in giving a common membership to New Zealand women was far reaching. “1.D.0.M.” should be the motto: “It depends on me.”
The president thanked the speakers for their inspiring addresses and the soloists for entertaining. Mrs. Fry sang a solo, after which tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Keeble, Ross. Connell. Johnson and Bleasdale.
