Tell Soldiers Of Patriotic Funds

The intention to correct in individual conversation with returned servicemen any misunderstanding which may have arisen regarding patriotic parcels was expressed by the Mayor ! (Mr W. Jones) when speaking at a civic reception accorded returned soldiers in Whangarei yesterday. “So far as this end is concerned nothing has been lacking in any shape or form,” he said. “There seems to be some misunderstanding and it needs squaring up. I will do that when I am talking to you individually at the conversazione tonight. “Whangarei borough and Whangarei district have contributed splendidly to patriotic funds aiid we have always secured our quotas. Whangarei people are the best givers in the Dominion and the women who taken the money from them are the best workers in New Zealand.” The question of patriotic parcels was referred to by Major-General A S. Wilder when speaking at the civic luncheon later. Many of the men overseas did not realise what was being done with patriotic funds, he said. An instance was given in the work of the Y.M.C.A. overseas which was being carried out with the support of patriotic funds, and not. as so many believed, with its own finances.
