Refusal To Connect State Houses
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. On the ground that it would be impossible to suppW houses and keep within the percentage increase in current allowed by the controller, and pointing out that the controller had already threatened to disconnect the supply because it was exceeding its allocation, the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board recently declined a request of the controller to connect up Slate houses. It had before it yesterday a reply which stated that the controller could ‘not accept the board's statement and pointing out the urgency for giving priority to houses. The board would have to seek to cut down the use of electricity in other directions. The amount needed by IC3 houses would not be great. If it were found, after the houses were supplied, that the board needed a larger supply, the question of a larger allocation would be considered. The board passed the following resolution: “Bearing in mind the complete dependence cn the electricity supply oi most essential services, particularly water and sewage pumping and industries, the beard regrets that it cannot agree to a request to connect 100 additional new homes per month unless and until a guarantee is given by the Electricity Controller that the board’s area will not be disconnected if the percentage of increase is exceeded.”
