“Carrie Hostel” Appeal To Farmers
Much has been heard of tiie good work being done by “Carrie Hostel” for all men of the fighting forces when on leave in Auckland. Comfortable beds and good meals are available at a minimum cost ol 1/- a night and 1/- a meal. To date, over 79,000 beds and 04,000 meals have been provided, mainly for country lads, as town boys have''their homes to go to. The Commercial Travellers’ Association manage this hostel as a war effort for patriotic funds, and it is particularly well spoken of bv the boys in uniform. Many donations oi’ butter and eggs are coming In, but the main difficulty is in keeping up a supply of bacon. Farmers are being asked if I hey can spare a pig or pigs for the cause. Walter Wakelin, Ltd., Whangarei, who qre acting for the Commercial Travellers’ Association, will arrange for pigs to be collected and consigned, and the association will have the animals killed and cured free of charge. Farmers willing to help are asked to advise Walter Wakelin, Ltd.
