Norway Sees Day Of Settlement Near
(Rec. 11 a.m.) LONDON, May 17. The Nortwegian Prime Minister (Johan Nygaardsvold), at the Norwegian Independence Day festival in London, said the. final settlement with
gangsters and traitors was approaching. Germany was still strong but with strength which was failing. The Germans were using propaganda of fear and lies to drive soldiers into a battle already lost. Splendid War Effort Norwegian airmen flying bombers have now dropped a greater tonnage of bombs on Germany than were dropped by the Germans on Norway during the fighting in 1940. Norwegian ships have sunk a total of 25,000 tons of enemy shipping. The Norwegian- Navy In 1942, Norwegian corvettes either sank or badly damaged 10 U-boats. Seventy-two German planes have been shot down and another 26 probably destroyed, and 85, damaged. The Norwegian navy is now some 60 units strong, manned by some 5000 officers and men, 1200 of whom are serving as gunners on Norwegian merchantmen.
