Candidate For N. Maori

(Special) AUCKLAND, Friday. Tapehana Paikea, who is to be nominated for ine Northern Maori seat, was born at Batley 23 years ago. He was educated at Tanoa and Ratana Pa Native Schools and the Wanganui Technical College. On leaving school, lie worked as assistant to his father from 1935 to 1937 on the Maori Advisory Councils. Then, after working for some time in bis father's office as a translator, he came to Auckland and joined the staff of the Native Department. A well-known footballer, Mr Paikea played for Wanganui College and later Otamatea representatives. In 1940 he turned out for Manukau Leaguers in Auckland, and, as he is 16ast, he was a prominent forward. He is married and lives at Avondale.
