children and others in aton. ing a bird to
death. The j children no cloubt did not think of the cruel side of the business for e most kiddies are the opposite to cruel. h As for bird sanctuaries, well, most people like fish. A good s u mof money has been suent introducing y fresh-water fish into our streams. Do , we get any? Hr Shag gets them. One see them hunting, some say eels, but “ Mr Eel is the last to be caught. , As for gulls, apart from the young mullet and flatties, they devour our figs. Two mornings now, we have had T six gulls, about a dozen starlings, four 3 blackbirds and numerous “blighties” , (white eyes) at our peaches—the best ; of them. Almost all the fruit goes west. Last, but not least, every farm- ’ er knows the amount of earthworms gulls eat when fields are being disced or ploughed. I think everyone with farm or garden knows how essential ihe worms are to the growth of crops and pastures. I hope seme abler pen than mine will take the matter up. Apart from the filth the gulls leave on farm buildings, they are a pest.—BOß HOLLAND.
