Releasing- Manpower For Local Bodies
Investigations among municipal authorities on the question of manpower did not disclose a very strong case for a declaration of essentiality applying to all municipalities.
This information was contained in a letter from the Municipal Association of New Zealand received by the Whangarei Borough Council..
The Minister for Industrial Manpower. however, had promised that if any local body was in difficulties he would be glad to give assistance in solving the difficulties in accordance with the merits of each individual case. Members should write in the first instance to the district manpower officer. Departmental Assistance The National Service Department was prepared to make a list of all former local body employees who were available for release from the army. If any local bodies were short of staff they should write with details of the nature of the services required to the district manpower officer and the department would assist in releasing men with the desired qualifications from the pool of men available. If any local body desired to recover the special services of any former employee application should also be made to the district manpower officer, and if any difficulties occurred the local body should refer the question to the department or to the association. The advice was received without comment.
