Mr. A. Dickie, well known in Whangarei, has died in Auckland. Mr. Dickie was chief engineer of the Claymore and Wairua when these vessels were engaged in the coastal trade and consequently was a frequent visitor to Whangarei, where he became widely known.
Mr. R. E. Standen, 8.E.. who has been for 41 years assistant-engineer to the North Auckland Electric-power Board, has been appointed engineer to the Waitomo Electric-power Board. Mr. Standen will take up his new position about the end of the month and will reside at Te Kuiti. In the latest news from Egypt appears the marriage of Major Elliot, N.Z.M.C.. son of Sir James and Lady Elliot. Wellington, to Miss E. Reed. N.Z.W.A.A.C., daughter of Mr and Mrs Vernon Reed, of Paihia. The bride was given away by her brother, Major Nigel Reed. The following members of the Whangarei Borough Council’s administrative staff had been granted military leave and were serving with the forces: Eombr. L. W. Mcßeath. N.Z.F.A.. Middle East Forces: Sgt.-Pilot C. J. Whitelaw, R.N.Z.A.F., London, England; Staff Sergeant F. L. E. Wilson. Waiouru; Sergeant A. T. Henderson, 2nd N.Z.E.F.. Middle East Forces; Gunner R. A. Muir, N.Z.A., Ohaeawai; Aircraftman C. H. Muir, Rotorua; Aircraftman A. L. Patterson, Rongotai.
