CAPETOWN. March 7
After a whole day debate, the House Assembly defeated by 54 to 36 a motion demanding expulsion of Soviet Consular officials and suppression of the Communist Party.
The Minister for the Interior (Mr. Lawrence) said there was no evidence that Russian officials had abused their positions or that Communists were behind the recent wave of native unrest.
“The Opposition were using the “Communist menace” as a new election cry.’’
