High Awards For 12 New Zealand Airmen
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Twelve awards, comprising two Distinguished Service Orders, nine Dis-. tinguished Flying Crosses and one Distinguished Flying Medal, have been awarded members of New Zealand air personnel serving overseas, states official advice received from London by are members of the Royal New Zeathe Air Department, Wellington, all land Air Force unless otherwise stated. The recipients are: — Distinguished Service Order Acting-Squadron-Leader Maechel Anthony Ensor, D.F.C. and Bar. Mr A. Fnsor, of Rakihura, Rangiora (father). Squadron-Leader lan Costin Patterson (R.A.F.). Miss M. Patterson, of Auckland (sister). Distinguished Flying Cross
Squadron-Leader John Howard Player (R.A.F.). Acting-Squadron-Leader Gage Darwent Sise (R.A.F.). Mr R. G. Sise, of Dunedin (father). Flight - Lieutenant Huntley Gordon Holmes (R.A.F.). Mrs Gordon Holmes, of Brisbane (mother).
Acting-Flight-Lieutenant James Fraser Barron, D.F.M. Mr J. Barron, of Palmerston South (father). Acting-Fiig'ht-Lieutenant John Allan Hetherington. Mr J. With these recent awards two recipients gain unique additional honours. Acting-Squadron-Leader Ensor becomes the third New. Zealander to hold his bracket of awards —D.S.O. and D.F.C. and Bar—the two other holders of this particular group being Wing-Commanders E. P. Wells (R.N.Z. A.F.) and T. O. Freeman (R.A.F.). both of whom have now returned to New Zealand
Acting - Flight - Lieutenant Barron, D.F.C.. D.F.M., is the fourth New Zealander to gain both the D.F.M. and D.F.C.
Awarded the British Empire Medal, Sergeant Colin M. Wilson, second son of Mrs. S. M. Dyctt, of Whangnrei. is well known in Whangarei, where lie was born and educated at the primary school and high school. Pie lived for some years at Kaitaia, his father, the late Mr. J. L. Wilson, being engineer to the Mangonui County Council, and while in Kaitaia he attended the local school.
After leaving the Whangarei High School he served his apprenticeship as a builder with Mr. O. R. Haigh. At the time of joining the forces lie was in partnership with Mr. Fred Mullins, who is now a prisoner of war. A keen Rugby player, he played for Old Boys. He was also a member of the Municipal Band. After serving in Fiji, he returned to New Zealand and went to the Middle East with the engineers.
