Northland Rep. Cricket Eleven For Eden Park
Following two trial games played at Kensington Park, Whangarei, on Sunday, the following team was selected to represent a Northern Division against Northern Military Command at Eden Park on Christmas and Boxing Days: Captain J. J. Valentine (capt.), 2nd-Lieuts. H. Meltzer, C. R. Carnachan, J. H. Elliott, Dvrs. S. G. Haliday, C. W. Morris, Gnrs. G. E. Butler, A. R. Arblaster, E. Axon, Cpl. J. B. King, Pte. T. R. McArthur. Twelfth man, Sgt. R. J. Fulton; 13th man, Gnr. R. J. Hodgson.
The selectors were Lieutenant R. H. Speer, Lieutenant Armstrong and Sergeant E. H. Dickey. The selectors announced that several outstanding players had been left out, the team having been chosen wtih a view to giving as many units as possible representation. Includcde is a big percentage of former Auckland Brabin Cup representatives.
Of the four competing elevens Divisional Troops were certainly the strongest—perhaps capable of challenging a selection from the other three combined. Five Divisional Troops players are in the side for Auckland.
