Successful Fancy Dress Ball At Waiharara

For Waiharara School parents’ day, prize giving and sale of work a very enjoyable afternoon was spent, the attendance being very large. After a happy concert given by the children, and including poems, songs and a play, “The Bishop’s Candlesticks,” the girls gave a demonstration of wool spinning and exhibited articles made during the year. Prizes were given as follows:—Sports cup: Boys, Ivan Katavich; girls, Te Aroha Hag'ger. House cups: Alma Yelavich and Ivan Katavich. Best workers during' the year: Ivan Katavich and Maudie Salle. Calf club: Bobby Yelavich. Home gardens: Mercia Milich and Steve Matijevich. A bring and buy and sale of children’s woodwork realised £4. The afternoon concluded with a most enjoyable afternoon tea served by the ladies. Successful Ball One of the most successful functions ever held at Waiharara was the fancy dress ball last Saturday. Commencing with the Grand March, the children followed by performing, in an excellent manner, the following folk dances: “Ace of Diamonds,” “Rufty Tufty,” “Grand Old Duke of York,” “Epping Forest.” ‘Gallopede.” “Cochin China,” “Christchurch Bells,” “Brighton Camp” and “If Ah the World Were Paper.” After the children’s concluding “Snail Train” display, the judges, two members of the L.A.F.V.R. orchestra, pronounced the following as winners in their respective classes'- Most original, Ljubo Babich, ‘The Admiral;” best boy’s costume, Barry Lupis, “Chinese Mandarin;” best girl’s costume, Katie Salle. “This Old World;" best couple, Ivan Katavich and Alma Yelavich, “Yugoslavian National Couple;” under five, Eunice Srhoj, “Coronation Girl,” and Margaret Wattridge, “Old English Gentleman.” This was followed by a most successful dance. Prize-winners were: Milka Matiievich and Joe Babich, hat waltz; Mrs. Moffat and partner, spot waltz: Mr. and Mrs. F. Vazey, Monte Carlo; Mr. C. Hutley and Miss N. Heath, Monte Carlo. Mr. T.‘ Wattridge was M.C.
