National Council Of Women
The July meeting of the National Council of Women was held at the home of Miss Clark-Walker. The president (Mrs. A. M. Woods) welcomed Mrs. Potts, a new associate member, and also Mrs. Collins, a visitor from Auckland. The control of the sale of baby wool was discussed and a remit from Auckland regarding this was unanimously agreed to: “That the Minister for Supplies be approached and asked to see that any baby wool available or . coming forward be released through the Plunket Society or by doctor’s certificate to mothers and expectant mothers, so that they will have first call, and that some endeavour be made to increase supplies.” It was reoorted that homes were urgently needed for 20 voluntary aids, and members were asked to co-operate in an endeavour to find homes available close to the Emergency Hospital. Co-operation was also asked in the matter of supplying Home Guardsmen with large buttons for their great-coats, as it was impossible to get a supply of new ones.
