Books For Troops In Middle East

The latest report from the New Zealand Red Cross Commissioner in the Middle East has now reached the War Purposes Committee, and gives all the news concerning our men in the various hospitals, as well as news of the activities of the band of Red Cross helpers in their daily rounds of visiting, Major Tweedy again asks for magazines, such ,as those mentioned a few weeks ago, and specially mentions National Geographic, Popular Mechanics and the Wide World. Up to date, however, the response has been negligible, so it is hoped that all those interested in the sick and wounded will do their utmost to send any of the above-named publications to their nearest Red Cross depot. , The commissioner is pleased to report the receipt of several letters from the patients in the various .hospitals. These expressions of thanks, coupled with verbal ones, give great satisfaction to all who are doing their “bit" to help make enforced inactivity- less onerous. The next-of-kin here in New Zealand will know that, with such close attention to the needs of the sick and wounded, they are spared a deal of the anxiety which has been their lot in the past.
