The reappointment of Messrs A. D. Park and T. N. Smallwood, as joint managing directors of the Slate Advances Corporation. for a term of seven years, was gazetted last night. Mr Alan Grant has been appointed representative oi' the New Zealand Government on the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board, replacing Mr. Alexander Scott Holmes, according to last night’s gazette. Mr. William Bertie McKenzie, of Wellington, has been appointed a member of the War Damage Commission in place of Mr. G. E. Brangwyn who has resigned, according to last night's Gazette.
Mr Gordon Kensington, who accompanied the Minister for National Service and Transport (Mr R. Semple) on ins Northland tour as private secretary, was a member of the clerical staff, Whangarei Public Works Department, some 10 years ago. The official party were on the south-bound express today. Sub-Lieutenant T. E. Berridge, who left New Zealand with the Fleet Air Arm last year, has received promotion. He was transferred to the navy on his arrival in England, and has been engaged on convoy work on the corvette H.M.S. Larkspur. He was educated at the Whangarei High School and his parents reside at Manse Street. As a result of injuries received in a fall near his residence in Pentland Road on Wednesday evening, the managing director of Bargain Stores Ltd.. Mr. R. T. Tudehope. was admitted last r.ight to the Whangarei District Hospital, where his condition this morning is reported as satisfactory. Lieut. C. P. Thode. R.N.V.R.. Mt. Eden, Auckland, a cabled story of whose exploits as a submarine navigator appeared in last night’s "Advocate," is a son of Mr Percy Thode. former licensee of the Waipapakauri Hotel. Lieut. Thode, who is one of the few New, Zealanders serving in submarines, as a youth made a trip round the world in sail. Mr L. W. Smith was appointed by the Whangarei County Council today as representative on the Whangarei Hospital Board in replacement of Mr A. Stephen, who recently resigned because of ill-health. In nominating Mr Smith, the chairman (Mr J. A. S. Mac Kay) said that he would be able to reoresent both the Maungakaramea and Mangapai ridings on the board, although riding representation was not recognised, county appointees representing the whole territory. Mr G. H. Lloyd, acting-clerk of the Whangarei County Council, was the recipient of congratulations at the annual meeting today. The chairman said Mr Lloyd had been able to step into the shoes of one of the most efficient clerks in New Zealand without the slightest loss of efficiency when Lieut.-Colonel H. C. Hemphill had been mobilised. This result also reflected credit on Colonel Hemphill, under whom Mr .Lloyd had gained most of his experience.
Mr. J. A. S. Mac Kay was re-elected chairman of the Whangarei County Council at the annual meeting todav. Mr. Mac Kay has been chairman of the council since 1935. In nominating Mr. Mac Kay, Cr. A. Clarke said that during the past seven years under his leadership the council had been a happy family and business had been carried out most efficiently. The lull council was appointed the finance committee (Mr. A. Clarke, chairman). Messrs Mac Kay. Clarke and F. Elliott tlie legal committee. Messrs Mac Kay. Elliot and R. Fc-aver the supplies and purchasing' committee and Messrs Mac Kay, Clarke and Feaver the machinery committee.
