Westfield Beef In Demand

(Special) AUCKLAND, This Day. There was a full entry of ox beef at the Westfield fat stock sales yesterday. The demand was steady, and values were fully on a level with those of last week. Cows were yarded in average numbers and sold at rates on a par with those of last week. Messrs. Alfred Buckland and Sons, Dalgety and Co., and the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency, report as follow: — Beef.—A full entry of ox beef sold readily at values fully on a level with last week's quotations. Cows and heifers also came forward in average numbers to realise rates on a par with last week. Extra choice ox sold to 37/- per 1001 b.; choice and prime ox. 34/- to 36/-; ordinary and plain, 30/- to 32/-; prime young cow and heifer beef, 2!.V- to 33/-; ordinary cow beef. 21/- to 23/-. Extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £l4/10/- to £ls/15/-; heavy prime steers, £l2/15/- to £l3/15/-; lighter prime steers, £ll to £l2/5/-; light prime steers, £lO to £lO/15/-; small and unfinished steers. £8 to £9/10/-; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £lO to £lO/2/6; heavy prime cows and heifers, £B/15/- to £9/15/-; lighter prime cjtiws and heifers, £6/15/- to £7/15/-; other killable cows, £4 to £6.

Sheep.—A full cm try of sheep sold under good competition. Values for wethers improved, but ewes did not reach last week’s level. Extra heavy prime wethers, £l/19/- to £2/0/3; heavy. £l/17/- to £l/10/6: medium. £l/15/- to £l/16/-: light, £l/11/- to £l/13/6; plain and unfinished. £1 to £l/9/-: extra heavy prime young and maiden ewes, £l/4/9 to £l/7/0; heavy, £l/2/0 to £l/3/6; lighter, £ 1 to £l/1/6; plain and aged, 17/6 to 19/-; others. 2/6 to 12/6. Lambs. —For a heavy yarding of lambs the demand was keen and values firm. Extra heavy prime lambs. £l/8/- to £l/10/9; heavy. £l/5/6 to £l/6/6: medium. £l/3/- to £l/4/6: lighter, 19/- to £l/2/6; light. 17/- to 18/6; small and plain, 15/- to 16/6.

Calves. —Good duality vealers and runners were in short supply. Values showed a decided improvement. Runners, £5/5/to ,£IG; heavy vealers. £5/10/- to £6/4/-; medium, £4/5/- to £5/5/-; light. £3 to £4; small. £1 to £2/18/-; unfinished and bucket icd. 10/- to £l/5/-; bobby and rough. 5/- to 17/-. Pigs.— There was an average entw. Bidding was brisk for all classes and values were equal 10, and in some instances for porkers, exceeded last week's rates. Choppers. £l/5/- 1o £3/10/-: heavy baconers, £4/10/- to £4/15/-; medium. £4/2/- to £4/6/-: light. £3/12/- to £3/18/-; heavy porkers, £3/2/- 1o £3/9/-; medium, £2/13/- to £2/17/-; light, £2/5/- to £2/10/-; small and unfinished £l/10/- to £2; stores, £l/1/- to £l/12/-; slips, 12/lo 18/-; weaners, 9/- to 12/-.
