Dried Butterfat Plant

(Special) c AUCKLAND, This Day. Within three weeks the Internal Marketing Division in Auckland expects to be operating its new plant for the manufacture of dried butterfat which is capable of producing between 10,000 and 15.000 tons per annum. The plant cost in the vicinity of £IO,OOO. All the dried butterfat will be exported. Reference to the new industry, which really involves a by-product of the dairy industry, is made in the annual report of the National Dairy Federation. “The future commercial value of dried butterfat cannot at this stage be accurately assessed, but the Dairy Research Institute’s success in producing a pure dry butterfat which will maintain its quality for a long time without the aid of refrigeration cannot be regarded by the industry as anything but a notable achievement. states the report. “The existing plant at Palmerston North has a capacity of 50 tons a week, and equipment of similar capacity is now being installed at Auckland, where it will be operated by the Internal Marketing Division. The capacity of these installations could easily be increased by adding' additional units.” .
