Mo Strike Pledge Will Be Honoured

(Rec. 2 p.m.) NEW YORK, June 10. Organised labour in the United States will honour its pledge that there shall be no interruption in defence work by strikes, said the president of the American Federation of Labour (Mr Green) in a broadcast to Australia.

He added: “Our members have lived up to that pledge almost 100 per cent since the war began. United States workers are performing production miracles daily. Their record is unmatched throughout the world.

“Given the tools and materials they will produce everything America needs for victory. Labour is showing the nation how to bury past quarrels and how to unite in an allout war effort.

“Ever since the outbreak the A.F.L. and C. 1.0. have worked together as patriotic Americans and have conferred with Mr Roosevelt to formulate joint policies for winning the war. “A message was also broadcast by the president of the C. 1.0. (Mr Philip Murray), who said that long before the treacherous attack on Pearl Harbour his organisation recognised that Fascism was the enemy of all workers and mankind and must be annihilated.

The C.1.0.’s paramount concern was to unite, the nation and mobilise its full strength for the military defeat of Hitlerism in 1942. For the same reason the C. 1.0. united with the A.F.L. and all other anti-Fascist groups in opposing attempts to split American unity and the unity of the Allies.
