Former N.Z. Air Chief Visits Dominion Fliers

LONDON, April 9

Air Vice-Marshal H. W. L. Saunders, who was formerly Chief of the Air Staff, New Zealand, and is now Administrative Air Officer at Fighter Command headquarters, recently visited the New Zealand Spitfire Squadron. He was promoted from Air Commodore shortly after his return to Britain. Wing-Commander E. G. Olson, of New Plymouth, is now commanding the New Zealand Bomber Squadron. His appointment is very popular with the New Zealanders, who naturally prefer a New Zealander for their commanding officer. The squadrons still have fewer New Zealanders than they might have, but efforts are being made to draft more in.

Wing-Commander Olson recently accompanied Wing-Commander T. O. Freeman, D. 5.0., D.F.C., of Dunedin, on the big raid against Lubeck. Flight-Lieutenant A. G. Humphreys, of Christchurch, has been awarded the D.F.C. for his action in bringing back a Stirling bomber safely from a raid.
