Smith, Wilding Win Doel Pairs Bowling

Saturday was one 'of ! the hottest days experienced on the Whangarei Bowling Club's greens this season and as a'conse quence the playing areas were in magnificent condition. Outside of the ordinary draw games there was the semi-final and the final matches of the Doel pairs, unfinished from the previous week. Ashton and Curtis (s) (Kensington) hacV to meet H Penning and L. Chilman (Portland) in the semi-final with R. Smith and Wilding (s) (Whangarei) holding the bye. The semi-final proved to be a runaway victory for Chilman. the final score reading Chilman 28, Curtis 9. The Final The final was a better game, although Wilding won comfortably. He established an early lead ancl maintained it throughout the game to win by 21 points to 14. R. Smith was leading excellently and had the belter of the exchanges with Penning. Chilman was frequently in trouble and fought well, but Wilding, who was doing most of what was asked of him. left nothing to chance to maintain a firm grip of the match. At the conclusion of the game the president of the Whangarei Bowling Club (Mr. E. Woledge) presented trophies to the winners and runners-up. Championship Pairs To find the champion pair to represent the club in the centre championships. 1c be held this month, the Whangarei Bowling Club held a one-life pairs tournament over the week-end 1 with 10 solid pairs taking part. Three games were necessary to eliminate the field sufficiently to find the finalists. The survivors are Lambess and Whitelaw (s) and Morton and Dennis (s). This pair will play off tomorrow evening.
