Grand Finale To Carnival Week

To the rhythmic music ot a nine-piece band, over 400 couples danced on Saturday night at the grand finale to Whangarei’s Patriotic Week. The town hall presented a colourful and animated scene. Young folk comprised the majority of those present and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The evening was devoted entirely to dancing; those who did not want to dance enjoyed a good view of the whole proceedings from the dress circle. As an indication of the number present, several relays were necessary to provide for ali in the supper room. Thanks are due to the ladies who gave much time to preparing and serving this supper. Well-patronised was a sports corner conducted by Sgt.-Major Bentley and Mr P. Everett, where "races” were run off in quick succession. A considerable amount was taken at this table. The takings at the door exceeded £SO.
