Whangarei Responds To Paper Appeal

A good response was made to the appeal for waste paper in Whangarei today, residents complying with the request that the paper be packed into convenient bundles. Most people put a parcel outside their gates, while collectors nearly always managed to secure some on request. Scouts and boys from the Whangarei High School undertook the collection and set to work early this morning. By nine most streets had been covered and the boys returned with considerable amounts of paper.

An unexpected supply came from yesterday’s patriotic effort; paper wrappings and raffle tickets littered the streets and the rubbish lorry was well filled when the rubbish from the business area had been collected.

The more outlying districts presented some difficulty but the use of a car and trailer made things much easier. \ The response to this most necessary cause is gratifying and it is to be hoped that future monthly collections will achieve the same results.
