Damages Claim.—Judgment for defendant followed the six-day hearing in the Supreme Court of a £2OOO damages claim brought by the Zealandia Finance and Trading Company and Lawrence Pickles, director, against’B. J. Eall (N Z.), Ltd., paper dealers (Mr North and Mr Bartleet). Plaintiffs alleged that defendant was to supply newsprint at £23 a ton, and plaintiffs were to make -from it greaseproof paper which defendant was to buy back at £54 a ton. Defendant denied any such contract. Plaintiffs were granted 10 days to consider applying for a new trial. India. —Air-Marshal Sir Richard Peirse, formerly chief of the Bomber command, has been appointed Air Officer Com-mattder-in-Chie£, India. Wavell.-r-General Sir Archibald Wavell recently visited Kunming and conferred with Marshal Chiang Kai-shek. Armoured Guards. —An armoured division has been formed by the famous guards regiments. Armoured units of the guards were reported to have participated in the second offensive in Libya toward the end of last year. Aussie Plane.—The Minister for Aircraft Production in Australia (Senator Cameron) said that a formidable Australian-built fighter aircraft, which also could be used for bombing, had undergone searching tests- and had fully satisfied experts. Senator Cameron added that the macnine, which had been developed from a welltried type had geen improved by Australian designers. Arrangements were now being rushed forward for the machine to be placed in quantity production. . Turkey.—The new United States Ambassador to Turkey (Mr L. Steinhardt) arrived at Ankara on Thursday. ■ Eire.-H-A' bill providing for the establishment of a reserve bank in Eire has been introduced into the Dail, states a message from Dublin.

Donations. —It was disclosed in the House of Commons that over £16,000,000 had so far been contributed by the people of Britain and overseas to the construction of aircraft for the Royal Air Fores.
