FLOWERS

Plant Iceland poppy seedlings. Also sow seed for late flowering. Remove the long runners from violet plants. If plenty of seed is available, the following may be sown out of doors during showery weather: Larkspur, viola, sweet pea, wallflower, linaria, Virginian stock, nemesia, linum rubrum, calendula, nasturtium, and other hardy annuals. Plant anemone and ranunculus seedlings and corms. Plant daffodils, hyacinths, cyclamen, tulips, irises, triton ias, nerines. babianas, freesias, ixias, etc.

Sow in boxes seed of antirrhinum, stock, pansy, violas, carnations, nemesia, Sweet William, larkspur, cineraria, dimorphotheca, gaillardia. Chrysanthemums and dahlias should be carefully tied to their stakes. They will benefit by weak liquid manure once a week. Large flowered petunias will often make new growth at the roots at this season. These may be pulled off with roots attached. They will make good late flowering plants in sheltered, sunny positions. Iris stylosa should have the leaves cut to within a few inches of the ground so as to allow all the sun possible to reach the rhizomes. The present is a good time for sowing carnations of the perpetual flowering varieties.. Seed sown now should make good strong flowering plants for next spring bloom. Many piants are more easily divided if a little good fine soil is sifted over them at this season. Violas, dwarf ageratum, armeria, dianthus, Sweet William are a few of many that will be ready for dividing in the autumn if treated now.
