The week is being held with the idea of interesting all boys in the Scout movement. Whangarei is taking its share in the week and on Saturday a field day will be held at Hora Hora. The usual Scout activities will be displayed. ,5 * * * Drought Breaks Six weeks of dry weather have left their mark on Northland pastures, which, in many districts, are bearing a sombre brown appearance. Even paspalum has made little growth and there seems little prospect of adding to the fairly substantial hay crops harvested in spring. Already the decline in dairy output is at least 10 per cent. Yesterday’s heavy showers were welcomed with relief. Though perhaps not enough to do a great deal of good the rain will prove beneficial in breaking the long drought, and its effect can be seen already in bright lawns and pastures. In some country areas the rain was much heavier than in the town, and so swollen did the Otaika creek become that workers on their way to Portland lor night shift were delayed half an hour by flooding. The rainfall at Whangarei for the 24 hours was .56 of an inch.
