Aerial Battle Over New Britain

(Rec. 1 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 18. Royal Australian Air Force Hudson bombers fought a battle with Japanese fighters over Rabaul, New Britain, yesterday. The Hudsons were on reconnaissance. During the engagement one enemy fighter was damaged. The bombers suffered no casualties and completed their reconnaissance. A Japanese plane appeared over Port Moresby in New Guinea on Monday but was driven off by anti-aircraft fire.

Several places on the small Sunda Islands in the Malaya Archipelago have been bombed and machinegunned. A number of people were killed and several wounded, but relatively small damage was done to material.
