Coach And Motor Body Builders’ Award
[Per Press Association—Copyright] WELLINGTON. This Day. An increase in wages was opposed by employers in the Conciliation Council yesterday when the New Zealand Federated Coach and Motor Body Builders, and Related Trades Industrial Association of Workers applied for a new Dominion award. Most of the clauses in the present award were agreed to, but the employers* assessors opposed a demand for an increase of 10 per cent in wages, plus the Court of Arbitration's 5 per cent cost of living bonus. The employers also opposed a demand that the duties of helpers in paint shops should not include painting, lacquering, or varnishing, either by hand or by spray gun, other than the first coating and filling up. Pay For Women Other demands made by the workers were that female workers receive the same pay as males for equal work, and that all work on Saturdays be paid at double rates. The employers, in counter-demands, suggested that the ordinary hours of work should not exceed 40 weekly, but any worker might be employed up to four hours in excess of 40 hours in any week on the day usually observed as a haifholiday at ordinary rates of pay. The hearing is being continued today.
